Camden Market
For the alternatives. A market that has been famous for many years and is one of the most popular in London. Situated on Camden Lock it features food stalls as well as antiques and is the place to go for alternative music and fashions. If the weather is good, combine the market with a walk along the canal towpath past Regents Park.
Borough Market
For the foodies. Centrally located near London Bridge, it is the oldest food market in London having been operating for more than 1000 years. These days it tends to specialise in high quality and gourmet foods so best to come with a hungry stomach and eat your way around the stalls.
Portobello Road
For the antique hunters. This market became even more popular after the movie Notting Hill was filmed in the area. Billing itself as the world's largest antique market, the day to visit is Saturday when you can find more more than 1,000 stalls selling antiques and various bits and pieces to fascinate those in search of a hidden bargin.
Maltby Street
For the independents. Having only opened in 2010 this market in south-east London quickly became a popular weekend destination. It is not the easiest to find but once you do, wander past the stalls located under the railway arches and enjoy gourmet ethnic dishes, craft beers, wine bars. It is a small place but well worth the effort to locate.
Columbia Road Flower Market
For the greenies. Head out to the East End on a Sunday to lose yourself amongst a jungle of flower stalls and shops selling exotic blooms and locally grown shrubs. A local favourite, if you like things bright and colourful then this is the place for you. Outside of the Sunday market, the street is worth visiting for its collection of garden-inspired art galleries, delis, cafés, and clothing stores.
