Uruguay - land of the Tannat grape and 12.2 million grass fed cattle!

Updated: Jul 3, 2020

2020 has not been the best for the travel industry, but a small country in South America, namely Uruguay is making huge progress in being the first after New Zealand to be corona-free. Uruguay has a population of 3.45M and it's new progressive government is very focused on bringing foreign investment to its shores. Google for example is planning to install a data centre in Canelones just outside the capital of Montevideo and the government is making it easy for foreigners to buy property and gain citizenship.

Punta del Este, the high-end seaside resort town 1:30min from Montevideo has become a big attraction in the summer. Montevideo attracts more cruise ships and over the years we have seen so much more interest in visiting wineries and learning about Uruguay's flagship grape Tannat, which is now known as the healthiest red wine in the world, due to it's tannins having high levels of antioxidants, polyphenols and resveratrol. In short, it's very good for your health and heart.

The Wine Experience is the best way to visit small wineries off the beaten track. Whether you are interested in a city tour, sightseeing tour, wine tour they have got you covered. Besides delicious Tannat, it is now widely regarded that Uruguay has the best tasting meat in the world with a whopping 12.2M grass fed cattle.

If you're planning a trip to Uruguay, Travelcoup works together with The Wine Experience to provide a brilliant and varied range of tours from Montevideo and Punta del Este
